The late,legendary, and beautiful Whitney Houston family’s reality series premiered last night October 24th,2012 on Lifetime titled The Houstons’: On Our Own. The series follows the life of Whitney’s daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown, Nick Gordon(family friend and Bobbi’s skeptical boyfriend), Pat Houston (Whitney’s sister-in-law and manager), Gary Houston (Pat’s husband and Whitney’s brother), Rayah Houston (Pat and Gary’s daughter), and the queen Cissy Houston who is Whitney’s mom. The series is a look inside the Houstons journey shorty after the passing of Whitney Houston and how they are coping with their lost. Most of the hype around the show is based around Bobbi Kristina and boyfriend Nick Gordon who was at one point considered a child of Whitney’s and a brother to Bobbi Kristina. The show reveals the concern for 19 year old Bobbi Kristina’s well being and her unapproved relationship with her once “brother” Nick Gordon.

For starters Bobbi and Nick cleared up the terms of their previous and current relationship. The two are now engaged and say that at no point did Whitney ever adopt Nick Gordon officially. According to Nick, Whitney took him in at a young age as she did many others that were in need and the two grew up with each other. As Bobbi and Nick have a simple explanation for their sibling hood turned romance, the family thinks the situation is much more complicated. “How do you go from being her brother to being her boyfriend? Gary asks in confusion. Engagement? No. I’m speechless” Pat adds.

Not only is the family concerned about Bobbi’s relationship,but also with the fact that Bobbi is an under age drinker. At 19 years old Bobbi Kristina enjoys her occasional cock tail at an occasion. Pat tells the cameras out of concern, “I don’t want to fail Krissy and I don’t want Krissy to fail herself.” It was also said that Whitney allowed Kristina to have a glass of wine here and there when she was alive so it is difficult to put Bobbi in the right mind frame. With the opening dramas and speculations being confirmed and cleared up the episode ended in the family having a Mother’s Day brunch with Cissy Houston and visiting Whitney’s grave site for the first time. Cissy Houston lead prayer that I’m sure was specifically for Bobbi and Nick as she doesn’t approve of the relationship either. “Let us pray that everyone finds their way.”
