Dolce & Gabbana will definitely want to choose their battle wisely when dealing with Azealia Banks. If you’re unfamiliar with the Harlem native she is an emerging female artist known for not biting her tongue when it comes to her beliefs. Having had short feuds with T.I.,Jim Jones, and anyone else that may have stepped into the cross fire, Dolce & Gabbana is no exception!
Azealia took to twitter to express her opinion on Dolce & Gabbana 2013 line of accessories and clothing that some say are racist and distasteful. The items being referred to are images of a black woman wearing a head wrap and looking similar to the “mammie “;”Aunt Jamime” stereo type and Ms.Banks is not going for that!
“Whoever designed that racist a– Dolce and Gabanna collection needs a swift kick in the mouth and a big d-ck up the a–,” Azelia tweeted. “I really hate when people do corny, racist things then try to justify it as ‘art.’ It’s all just really unnecessary. The clothes in the collection were fine without all the ‘black mammie’ imagery.”
A lot of artist go on pointless rants, but Azealia Bank’s blunt statement might hold some weight! Earlier this year Banks earned her own MAC lipstick shade named ”Yung Rapunxel” and became the “it” girl of Alexander Wang’s 2012 Fall line. I think it’s safe to say Yung Rapunxel has earned the respected right to put her two cents in the fashion world with Dolce & Gabbana controversial line as a fashionista and a black woman. It’s clear that Azealia took the first round by drawing attention to “that racist a– Dolce and Gabanna collection” so we’ll see if the Italian designers are up for a round or if she’ll win by default.
